Gretsch Community Makes April Rock

Gretsch Community Makes April Rock

When the Gretsch community comes together, fun just happens, especially if great Gretsch ambassador Joe Carducci has anything to say about it.  Joe and the worldwide Gretsch community of musicians, music lovers, and fans gathered together for two separate events in April, making April one rockin’ month to remember.

Brooklyn “Roundup” & Gretsch 135th Anniversary Celebration – April 14, 2018

What better way to celebrate 135 years of That Great Gretsch Sound than holding an event in a venue a mere 8 miles from the Gretsch Building at 60 Broadway built by Fred Gretsch Sr. in 1916! That’s exactly what happened on April 14. On that beautiful New York Saturday, the Gretsch community gathered at the Firefly in Brooklyn to enjoy a family-friendly event loaded with everything from great music to delicious food, and even some go-go dancers thrown in for groovy measure.

Approximately 60 Gretsch enthusiasts from the tri-state area got together to share their love of Gretsch, with many of the attendees performing on stage and exchanging Gretsch-related stories while eagerly awaiting their chance to win cool Gretsch swag and guitars!

Hosted by The Gretsch Pages & Gretsch-Talk Internet forums, the event totally rocked as you can see from the photos below!

Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend – April 19-22, 2018

The Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend is the largest and most respected rockabilly festival in the world! And having celebrated its 21st anniversary this year, it’s now the longest-running music festival in Vegas! To help mark that milestone, we celebrated the Gretsch 135th Anniversary in a BIG way!  What’s better than having two great reasons to have a party!

Gretsch guitars–and a purple Gretsch drum kit–dominated the performance stages at the Orleans Hotel with unbelievable headline performances that featured none other than the STRAY CATS (Brian Setzer/Slim Jim Phantom/Lee Rocker), the “King of Twang” DUANE EDDY, rock ‘n’ roll legend JERRY LEE LEWIS, and BUZZ CAMPBELL & HOT ROD LINCOLN.

Other great Gretsch performers included Darrel Higham, Stephen Brodbeck, and Eitaro Sako, as well as Chris Moinichen, Josh Keeney, and Sascha Vollmer.

The VLV Weekend attracts over 20K attendees each year to the Orleans Hotel & Casino for four non-stop days of music, hot-rods, dancing, burlesque, and partying. Rock ‘n’ roll and rockabilly aficionados from all over the world attend each year coming from Europe, South America, Japan, and even as far away as New Zealand!  The festival features the best rockabilly music from over 75 world-renown bands and legends of rockabilly as well as dozens of wild DJs and North America’s biggest pre-1960s era car show with hundreds of hot-rods and just as many vendors selling a variety of vintage must-haves. This year’s VLV Rockabilly Weekend was one attendees will be talking about for a very, very long time!

Mark your calendars now for next year’s Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend happening April 18 to 21, 2019!

Thank you, Joe Carducci, for the event information and photos!!

Note: Joe’s currently catching his breath but he’ll be back on the road for another great Gretsch community event on May 12.  Click for more info and join the fun!  And on Saturday, June 2, Joe (and Fred Gretsch) will be back in Brooklyn for Gretsch Day at StreetSounds. Stayed tuned for more!
